During the European Union referendum campaigns in the UK and the recent US presidential election, the influence of traditional experts was challenged. Advice and evidence provided by economists, think tanks, NGOs and academics was brushed aside in favour of popular opinion based on emotions rather than facts.

In a world where fake news, alternative facts, and social media echo chambers are becoming the new normal, has the public really had enough of experts? And if that’s true, where does that leave universities who undertake research and educate the experts of tomorrow?

Join the British Council and University of London at the National Gallery Singapore for a lively panel discussion to explore what has led us to a post-truth age, its potential impact, and what universities and higher education can do to help the world trust experts again.
